The Home at the foot of Žampach castle is a social facility of the Pardubice region – a home for handicapped people. The Home facility is situated in the chateau in Žampach village. This is a place of extraordinary historical and natural value which is used not only for The Home activities but also for the construction of a modern centre with connections to social services within the surrounding social environment.
The main objective of The Home is to provide permanent services according to the social services laws for social welfare for people with mental disorders who may also have physical or sensory disorder (except complete deafness) and specifically those who need regular social welfare services.
The services are provided to the inhabitants of EU countries in accordance with the valid laws of the Czech Republic and after proper application for and conclusion of the contract with this institution. The applicant can download the application form from The Home web pages or claim personally or in writing.
The Home facility is situated in the chateau in Žampach village, which is approximately 12 km north-east of Ústí nad Orlicí. This is a place of extraordinary historical and natural value which is used not only for the Home activities but also for the construction of a modern centre with connections to social services within the surrounding social environment.
The mission statement of the institution
The mission statement of the institution is to arrange and provide services supporting the skills, leading to independence in every day life activities as well as self-sufficiency in decision making of personal matters. Moreover, the Home offers social-therapeutic, educational, occupational and leisure activities both in its own centres and the local social environment.
The chateau premises have been used for state social needs since 1950, when the home for sick and elderly people was founded.
In 1967, it was changed into a home for social welfare for young mentally handicapped people. The care for approximately 35 boys was mainly implemented by nuns of the Franciscan Order. Since the 70s, the chateau and its premises have been reconstructed and shaped to suit the needs of social welfare.
It has been changed to facilitate nearly 100 clients over the last 10 years. The care was managed not only by civilians but also by nuns of the Vincent Order, who left the home in 1985. At that time there were more than 120 boys and men in the home.
Due to social and political changes in 1989, there has been a wide increase of public interest in events and the atmosphere of these homes and similar institutions.
The Home services are intended to help people with mental disorders, who are over 1 year old and whose self-sufficiency is limited due to their disorders and also whose state of health requires regular help from others. Furthermore, these services are dedicated to help people with mental disorders who may also have physical or sensory disorder (except complete deafness) and specifically those who need regular social welfare services.
Nowadays, the Home at the foot of Žampach castle provides permanent services to 119 clients, carried out by specialized and qualified staff, who provide direct care, help create family atmosphere and initiate centre activities through teaching.

The Home at the foot of Žampach castle also offers a wide range of other cultural, physical and leisure-time activities, where the participation is voluntary and depends on the interest and abilities of the clients. Some of these activities include sport, music, singing and movement as well as leisure-time cooking, needlework, hiking and swimming. These are organized outside the Home and involve various public institutions.

The ruins of the Gothic Žampach castle, the Baroque Chapel of St. Bartholomew as well as the Chateau footbridge (situated in one of the three large parts of the landscaped park, which is currently registered as the part of Žampach Arboretum), are the main sights of interest for tourists.
The Žampach Arboretum is a protected cultural heritage site and is a legal member of the Union of Botanical Gardens in the Czech Republic.
Approximately 500 plants and cultivars of woody plants, which are easily identifiable through a provided information system and scenic tour, are grown and cultivated on 4 hectares of surrounding land.
The care of these historical and natural places of interest is an integral part of clients´ activities.
Future development, perspectives and visions include not only investment projects focusing on evolution of and further humanization of already provided services, but also concentrate on changes in the requirements of the focus group and the range of services offered.
